Se trata de pequeñas figuras de plomo creadas como complemento del juego de rol de Star Wars que distribuía la casa West End Games (WEG) y cuya licencia paso luego a Wizard of the coast.

Nota: Las figuras se usaron también para el juego de mesa Star Wars: Miniatures Batlles que no fue traducido ni distribuido en nuestro país.

Las figuras eran elaboradas por la marca británica Grenadier y al tratarse de un producto vinculado con el juego de rol y no con el modelismo su tamaño era muy reducido (25 milímetros) y su detalle muy pobre. Los encargados de su tallado fueron Bob Charrette y Julie Guthrie y las figuras se distribuyeron tanto en blísters de tres unidades como de diez.

Muchas figuras estaban construidas en usa sola pieza o a lo sumo en tres (tronco y extremidades) por lo cual apenas necesitaban montaje. Lo que si había que hacer era rebarbarlas, imprimarlas, pintarlas e incluso darles un ligero barnizado protector si se deseaba emplearlas en el juego.

Las figuras que se distribuyeron en mayor número, y por tanto las más fáciles de conseguir, fueron las de los personajes principales sin embargo también se podían encontrar blísters que incluían tropas imperiales y rebeldes, androides y casi toda la fauna de la cantina.

Con la colección ya asentada se empezaron a incluir personajes del universo expandido como el Almirante Thrawn y se lanzó una línea al margen de al producción estándar y un conjunto de dieciocho cajas con una decena de miniaturas agrupadas por temas (Héroes rebeldes, Cazarrecompensas, etc).

Especialmente destacable por su nivel de detalle, su despiezado (mayor del habitual) y el resultado que ofrecían una vez pintadas era el blíster que incluía dos Speeder bikes Imperiales con sus correspondientes pilotos (Scouts). En las siguientes fotos podéis ver este modelo ya pintado y comprobar su tamaño por comparación con la goma de borrar.

   

Grenadier cerro sus puertas en 1.995 y Simtac tomo el relevo durante un tiempo pero con la desaparición de WEG las figuras dejaron de comercializarse definitivamente y por eso hoy en día son muy difíciles de conseguir. Encontrarlas en tiendas o comercios es prácticamente imposible sin embargo en Internet se venden y subastan unas cuantas. Si os interesa conseguir alguna de ellas podéis probar en EBAY o iniciar una búsqueda (grenadier miniatures) con cualquiera de los motores disponibles en Internet. El termino a buscar puede ser grenadier minuatures o grenadier star wars minuatures.

Nota: El relanzamiento del juego de rol que efectuado Wizards of the Coast el año 2.001 supuso la salida al mercado de nuevas figuras de 30 milímetros que podemos considerar como "sucesoras" de las de Grenadier.
